🌈 Rainbow moonstone is the useful twist. Despite the name, it is transparent labradorite, another feldspar. Its blue can arrive with several iridescent colours, while traditional moonstone usually gives a billowy white or blue sheen. The GIA explains that the trade accepts “rainbow moonstone” as a familiar name. It is not a fake; it is simply a close cousin wearing the family nickname.
