Move over, cucumbers and mint. Crystals are the latest addition to the water bottle trend - a convenient way to keep your crystals close. However, such convenience comes with a level of safety.

Using crystals is nothing new. Some spiritual healers believe that certain crystals may have healing properties. If you're looking for ways to feel good and enjoy your drink, add a crystal to your regular water! 💦

But are crystals safe to put in drinking water? Some people believe they are, while others are concerned about the potential health consequences.

But first, how do crystal water bottles work?

First, you must be familiar with crystals to get the most out of using a crystal water bottle. Although some crystals are said to promote wellness, there is no scientific research yet to suggest that crystals have healing powers. Therefore, when using crystals for healing, it is important to know the properties associated with each crystal.

Water has the potential to absorb energy by infusing it with a crystal. By doing so, you can harness the crystalline vibrations of each stone. Drinking water throughout the day can help to align your body with positive energies. Then the water will work subtly to support your overall well-being. 🧘🏻‍♀️

When a crystal is added to water, the idea is that it "programs" the water. A study by Japanese scientist Dr Masaru Emoto argued that, like crystals, water could also store information, including intentions. Emoto's famous experiments with programming water showed that it responds to desires projected onto it. Thus, drinking water infused with crystals is thought to provide you with the energy and healing properties of the crystals.

So, are crystal water bottles safe?

Crystal water bottles are safe if they are not exposed to extreme temperatures, have no cracks or leaks, and are properly stored. Also, it is crucial to ensure that the crystals in the water bottle are safe for drinking

Crystals Not Safe for Drinking

If you're unsure if your crystal can be placed in water, use the Moh Scale to determine its hardness level. Here are the general rules for using crystals with water:

  • If it has a MoH scale of 3 or less, like Selenite
  • If the material is porous, like Turquoise
  • If it includes metals, such as Malachite or Lapis Lazuli
  • If it has been coloured

Here are some crystals you should avoid putting in water, or into elixirs:

Amazonite: Contains hazardous trace levels of copper.
Bloodstone: If exposed to water, it will rust. This mineral should only be used in an elixir created using the indirect method.
Chrysocolla: Has low silicosis. Copper is potentially toxic. It is safe to handle but not to utilise in elixirs.
Coral: May organic substance such as hazardous microorganisms as well as contaminants that is especially harmful.
Lapis Lazuli: May present copper or sulphur (poisonous). Furthermore, porous materials do not absorb water.
Lepidolite: Contains Aluminum.
Malachite: Do not consume or expose to water. Because the raw stone might contain toxic dust, we recommend only using the tumbled/polished form for handling.
Opal: Toxic stone, may also absorb water and break.
Pyrite: Do not consume, a toxic or dangerous stone. It is water-sensitive and will deteriorate. This mineral should only be using in an elixir created using the other procedure.
Sodalite: Toxic stone, contains aluminum.
Turquoise: Copper and aluminium are present in this toxic or stones. This crystal that should not be cleansed in water or saltwater.

When in doubt, try the indirect method instead

You can opt for water that lets you put your crystal outside a glass container. The best crystals for energy work are single crystals rather than clusters or geodes because they are easier to clean and don't contain hidden impurities. This water bottle design pose less of a worry since the crystal is not directly touching the water.

How to Prepare Your Crystals Water Bottle

Remember to wash the crystals well with water, put them into a glass container, and cover them with fresh water. Cover the glass with lid and let it absorb sunlight or moonlight. When your crystals are now charged up, you have your water ready for drinking.

Now that you know which crystals are safe to put in drinking water, you're prepared to experiment with crystal-infused hydration!

What to look out for

When using your bottle, ensure that the crystals will not rust or decompose when immersed in water for extended periods. Some elements in crystal, such as mercury, copper, and aluminium, are toxic in large amounts (quartz is generally considered safe).

If you don't clean your crystal water bottle thoroughly, bacteria can also build up. So, keep them clean! Remove the crystal and rinse the bottle in filtered water. Place all parts of the bottle in the dishwasher regularly.

Should I buy one?
