🌙 Is my citrine natural? The amethyst secret
Natural yellow citrine is rare. Most citrine sold today is real amethyst heated until its purple colour turns gold.
That does not make it fake. It is still real quartz, and heat-treated citrine is the normal shop standard. Those tall golden “cathedrals” often began as purple amethyst geodes.
Quartz gets its yellow-to-orange colour from tiny iron-related changes inside the crystal. Heat can shift that colour. Nature makes its own purple-and-gold mix too: in Bolivia, amethyst and citrine can grow together as one crystal called ametrine.
Colour gives you a clue. Natural citrine is often pale yellow. Heat-treated pieces are often deeper gold or reddish orange. But colour alone cannot prove how a stone was made. A rich colour is lovely; it should simply be described honestly.
