Manaia – Spiritual Guardian

The Manaia is a powerful Māori carving symbol traditionally regarded as a spiritual guardian and protector. It is believed, in some Māori traditions, to act as a messenger between the spiritual world (te ao wairua) and the human world (te ao tangata).

Often depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a human and the tail of a fish, the Manaia represents a connection between the three realms of existence: the sky, the earth and the sea.

The Manaia symbolises protection, spiritual guidance, strength and balance. It is worn as a reminder that we are never truly alone, offering a sense of reassurance, guidance and connection to the spiritual world.
