When winter drags on and you feel run-down, crystal tradition has a shelf of stones for feeling strong again. Bloodstone for vitality, green aventurine for recovery, amethyst for the deep sleep your body mends in, black tourmaline to keep the world's bugs and bad moods at the door. People have worn and pocketed these ten stones for generations to hold the intention I am well, and at Rivendell we keep them for exactly that.
Here are the ten crystals for immune support, and what each is kept for:
- Amethyst – calm, and the rest your body repairs in.
- Bloodstone – vitality and life-force, the classic strength stone.
- Lapis lazuli – clearing and cleansing, the throat and the breath.
- Clear quartz – the amplifier that holds the intention to be well.
- Carnelian – warmth, energy and bounce-back.
- Black tourmaline – protection and a firm boundary.
- Citrine – sunshine for the darker months.
- Green aventurine – balance, recovery and the heart.
- Peridot – renewal and resilience.
- Malachite – transformation and a protective shield.
How immune-support crystals are believed to work ✨
In crystal practice these stones do three jobs. Some settle you, because wearers say a calm body is a strong body: amethyst, green aventurine, lapis. Some strengthen, feeding warmth and energy back in: bloodstone, carnelian, citrine, peridot. Some shield, holding a boundary around your energy while you get on with the day: black tourmaline, malachite, clear quartz.
You do not need all ten. Most people pick one from each job, wear or pocket them, and build a small routine around them. That routine is the point. The stone is a bookmark for the wish to be well, and touching it through the day keeps the wish awake.
The ten crystals for immune support
1. Amethyst 🌙
Amethyst is the settling stone. Wearers keep it for calm, for a quieter head at night and for the deep sleep the body mends in. In chakra practice it belongs to the crown, the place where you let go. It is purple quartz, 7 on the Mohs scale, so it takes daily wear easily.
Use it by the bed. A tumbled amethyst on the nightstand, held for ten slow breaths before the light goes off, is the oldest immune-support ritual there is. For daytime, an amethyst bead bracelet keeps the calm close.
2. Bloodstone
Bloodstone is where tradition starts when you feel drained. Dark green chalcedony flecked with red iron oxide, it has been carried for vitality and courage since the days it was called heliotrope. Tradition links the red flecks to the blood and the life-force, which is why it is the first stone people reach for when they feel drained or are coming right after a bug.
Wear the bloodstone bracelet on the wrist you use least, or keep a bloodstone worry stone in the coat pocket. When the afternoon dips, thumb across the red flecks and take three slow breaths. A bloodstone pendant sits near the heart, which is where tradition likes it.
3. Lapis lazuli
Lapis is the cleansing stone. Deep blue lazurite with gold pyrite flecks, it is linked in chakra practice to the throat, the breath and clear speech. Wearers use it to clear what feels stuck, and to keep the chest open through a cold season. It is softer than quartz, 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, so it prefers a pendant to a ring.
Wear a lapis point pendant at the throat, or a lapis chip bracelet. Hold it during a few deep breaths in the morning and picture the breath moving freely. For the full story, read lapis lazuli meaning, history and how to use it.
4. Clear quartz
Clear quartz is the amplifier. In crystal practice it is the master healer, the blank stone that holds whatever intention you give it and makes the stones around it stronger. Wearers keep it for clarity and for a steady, clean energy. It is the plain form of quartz, Mohs 7, and it is one of the cheapest pieces on the shelf.
Keep a rough clear quartz point on the desk with the tip toward you, or wear a clear quartz pendant. If you build a grid for wellness, this is the centre stone; our crystal grid guide for beginners shows the layout. Our clear quartz guide covers the rest.
5. Carnelian ☀️
Carnelian is warmth in a stone. Orange-red chalcedony, linked in chakra practice to the sacral centre and the life-force, it is worn for energy, appetite for the day and bounce-back after a slump. Wearers say it is the stone for the week you have to keep going. Much carnelian on the market has been heat-treated to deepen the red, and that is normal.
Put the carnelian bead bracelet on first thing in the morning. A carnelian pendant does the same job at the chest. Read more in carnelian meaning, uses and care.
6. Black tourmaline 🧿
Black tourmaline is the shield. In crystal practice it is the boundary stone, kept by the door, on the desk and on the body to hold your energy in and other people's moods out. Wearers reach for it in crowded rooms, on public transport and in the open-plan office in flu season. It is tough, 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, though it dislikes sudden heat.
Wear a black tourmaline bead bracelet, or clip a raw tourmaline keychain to the keys so it goes out the door with you. Our black tourmaline guide has the placement map.
7. Citrine
Citrine brings the sun indoors for the months that lack it. Golden quartz, linked in chakra practice to the solar plexus and personal power, it is worn for optimism, energy and a lift on grey days. Tradition also calls it self-cleansing, so it is the easy stone to live with. Like amethyst, some citrine can fade if it sits in strong sun for months.
Wear a citrine bead bracelet through winter, or a citrine chip bracelet if you want to start small. See citrine meaning, uses and care.
8. Green aventurine 💎
Green aventurine is the recovery stone. Quartz with tiny flakes of green fuchsite mica that give it a soft sparkle, it is linked in chakra practice to the heart and to balance. Wearers keep it for getting well, for the sneezy season and for steadying the whole system after a hard patch. It is the stone we hand to someone who says they just want to feel normal again.
Wear a green aventurine point pendant at the heart, or keep a tumbled aventurine in the pocket. A chip bracelet is the budget option. More in the benefits of green aventurine.
9. Peridot
Peridot is the renewal stone. The gem form of olivine, coloured olive green by iron, it is worn in crystal practice for fresh starts, resilience and letting go of what wore you down. It is a spring stone at heart, which makes it a good one to wear in late winter as a promise. Peridot is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and is happiest in a ring or pendant.
A delicate peridot sterling silver ring is the one piece on this list that also reads as everyday jewellery.
10. Malachite
Malachite is the transformation stone. Banded green copper carbonate, it is kept in crystal practice for protection and for the deep changes that come after illness or a hard year. Wearers say it absorbs what you do not want and asks you to grow. It is soft, 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, so buy it polished and treat it gently.
Wear the malachite point pendant or keep a tumbled malachite by the bed. One care note, told once: malachite is a copper mineral. Polished pieces are safe to wear and display, but keep it out of water, never put it in a drink, and wash your hands after handling a raw piece.
A winter crystal routine 🕯️
Here is the routine we suggest across the counter. It uses five stones, takes about two minutes a day, and each moment gives you something to touch.
Morning: put the carnelian bracelet on before the kettle boils and name one thing you will manage today. Pocket: a bloodstone worry stone for the afternoon dip. Desk: a rough clear quartz point with the tip toward you. Door: black tourmaline on the keys. Bed: a tumbled amethyst held for ten breaths.
If you are sick right now, keep it simpler. Green aventurine on the chest, amethyst by the bed, and rest. If you would like a quiet practice to go with the stones, our crystal meditation guide gives you a ten-minute one.

Caring for immune-support crystals 🧼
Most of this list is quartz or chalcedony, and it is easy to keep. Amethyst, citrine, clear quartz, carnelian, bloodstone and aventurine can all be washed in warm soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. Keep amethyst and citrine out of long spells of strong sun, because some pieces fade. Peridot and tourmaline like warm soapy water too, but not sudden heat, so no hot taps after a cold morning.
Two stones want a gentler hand. Lapis lazuli is softer and should skip steam, ultrasonic cleaners and solvents; a damp cloth is enough. Malachite is the softest of all: a dry cloth only, no water and no acid.
For energetic cleansing, tradition offers moonlight on the windowsill, a pass through palo santo smoke, or a night beside selenite. Our cleansing and charging guide walks through each method.
FAQs
Which crystal is best for the immune system?
If you want one stone, wearers usually choose green aventurine or bloodstone. Aventurine is the recovery and balance stone, worn at the heart; bloodstone is the vitality stone, carried in the pocket. Pair either with amethyst by the bed, because in crystal tradition good sleep is where strength comes back.
Which crystals are used for healing sickness?
When you are actually unwell, tradition keeps it gentle. Green aventurine on the chest for recovery, amethyst by the bed for rest, and clear quartz beside them to hold the intention. Once you are up and about, add carnelian or bloodstone for the energy to get back into the week. Our crystals for organ health guide goes stone by stone for specific parts of the body.
Which crystals are used for autoimmune conditions?
In crystal practice the stones chosen here are the balancing and settling ones rather than the fiery ones. Green aventurine for balance, amethyst for calm and sleep, lapis for clearing, and clear quartz to steady the whole set. Wearers with a long-running condition often keep one piece on the body all day and one by the bed, alongside everything else that keeps them well. Choose the stone that makes you feel steadiest when you hold it.
Do immune-support crystals really work?
Ask the people who wear them. Some studies have not measured a difference, and generations of wearers say otherwise, and so do we. What we see across the counter is simple: someone chooses bloodstone in June, touches it every afternoon, and by August tells us they felt stronger through winter. The stone held the intention, and the routine did the rest.
How do I cleanse and charge these crystals?
Rinse the quartz-family stones in warm soapy water and dry them; wipe lapis and malachite with a cloth instead. Then set them on the windowsill under the moon, pass them through palo santo smoke, or leave them beside selenite overnight. Tradition says citrine cleanses itself, so it can skip the queue.
Feel strong this winter
Pick one stone to settle, one to strengthen and one to shield, and give each a place in your day. That is all crystal tradition has ever asked. Find the stone that suits how you feel, and if you are near Manukau, come and hold them first.
